Picnic at East Coast Park

Darling and I agreed on a picnic on 23/10/10 at East Coast Park.

Left very early in the morning and went to Geylang Polyclinic to have an X-ray done for the lump on my head and had breakfast over there before heading to ECP.

Took a cab from Geylang and arrived at ...

Uniquetius fell asleep in the cab. Upon reaching ECP, I placed Uniquetius on the mat and he woke up.

My NUM shirt says "If there's no dragon boat in heaven,"

on the back it says "then I'm not going."

We cycled for a good 45 minutes before taking a break at Old Town White Coffee for their famous....coffee.

After tea break, we went to change Uniquetius as he pooped. There's no a single nursing room available. Got to ask permission from an enrichment centre to use their handicap toilet.

Wanted to let Uniquetius in to play but I was too exhausted from the sun, slight drizzling and cycling, I decided otherwise.

So we had a take-5 at New Zealand Ice Creamery and saw a Caucasian family with 2 kids and they're having a cone of ice cream each.

After a round of fun at the playground for Uniquetius, brought him to have his shower at the "public" toilet at $0.50. Public as in publicly shower in front of every body. Lol.

Went McDonalds for a very late lunch and tried to make Uniquetius nap.

Family Outing at Palawan Beach

YiLing and I have been thinking of bringing the boys to the beach for some sea, sun and sand. So we decides on gathering a whole group of mummies for a mass picnic at Palawan Beach.

We invited about 100 over daddies and mummies in facebook event but eventually only 6 families turned up.

Trev korkor went to console Darius and told him that he also does not have any NERF gun. Only have water gun.

At around 4+pm, we brought the kids to wash up and packed went our separate ways.

1st Bad Experience in Forum

I'd mentioned about a bad experience in forum in twitter recently.

As we had plan for a 1 full outing day, I was in need of a sandals for Uniquetius whom has sweaty feet.

Coincidentally, I saw this thread posted from this mummy that she's letting go 2 pairs of Preloved Shoes and 1 pair of Brand New sandals in exchange for stamps.

I thought that Black sandals look cute on Uniquetius thus I make the effort to inquire more about the sandals.

She first posted her thread on 12/10/10 at 10:16hrs, the second thread on 12/10/10 at 16:46hrs and the third thread on 13/10/10 at 09:45hrs to which I replied her 6 minutes later at 09:51hrs inquiring her about the length, brand of sandals and also location for pick up.

To which she replied approximately half an hour later. By then, I was quite keen on that pair of sandals but just before I commit, I would like to know if those sandals were heavy for Uniquetius’s little feet. She in turn replied that those were not heavy as she doesn’t like heavy footwear for her kid(s) too.

Right after the above reply I got from her, I confirmed with her that I want those pair of sandals and require her to give me her address so that I may proceed to mail her the stamps needed by her at 10:52hrs.

At 10:57hrs, she posted in the thread again that she has another pair of preloved shoe for sale to which I ignored as that thread was not directed at me.

I waited the whole day till the next morning but she had not emailed me her address. Hence, I dropped a message in the thread on 14/10/10 at 09:37hrs telling her that I need her address.

I received an email from her shortly after stating that “Hi, Cos I am waiting for a mummy as she wan all 3pair. I let u know again okie. So sorry.”

Then my blood started to boil at this moment. It was a angry-till-smoke-come-out-from-ears episode because I’d already said I wanted the item and requested for the address and yet few minutes later you asked if I would also consider another used pair of shoes. Then next day you emailed me telling me that you’re waiting for another mummy’s reply just because she’s taking all 3 pairs from you.

I wrote quite a long email reply to her sort of blasting her and also went back to the forum thread and told her off in a polite manner.

Who knows, she got defensive and insisted that the other mummy dropped a message first and mentioned that she felt “scaring” because I had misunderstood her.
*LAUGHS*

I proceeded to list down the time line of her thread and my replies and all that to prove that I am right and she is wrong. And I told her to forget about the deal which I was already not keen in dealing with her.

She replied nicely that she hope I can understand her situation or something like that. Actually her English, I really catch no ball in the last message.

But alas, I was quite pissed or rather disappointment over her “business etiquette”.It was alright for me that I couldn’t get hold of those sandals. I could easily buy them off shelf in any departmental store which is 100% guaranteed brand new. But it was her attitude that really got onto my nerves.

Sigh. Anyway, it’s over. I’m glad.

Egg Tofu Stew

Egg Tofu Stew

Ingredients:
- 1 tube of Egg Tofu; sliced
- Minced Pork Fillet (May use other parts or meat)
- Chinese Mushrooms; soaked and sliced thinly or into cubes
- 2 cups of Soup Stock or Plain Water

Condiments:
- Pepper (For marinating the Minced Pork Fillet)
- Cornflour (For marinating the Minced Pork Fillet to make it tender)

1. Pan Fried sliced Egg Tofu with Olive oil till slightly golden brown and remove from heat and set aside.

2. Marinate Minced Pork Fillet with Pepper and Cornflour. (Add Soy Sauce if desired
3. Put Soup Stock/ Plain Water to boil.
4. Add Marinated Pork and Mushrooms and bring it to boil again.
5. Add in Pan Fried Egg Tofu and let it simmer under low heat for about 15-20mins
6. Add a little corn flour to thicken the soup sauce

- May add more Soup Stock/ Water if required.

7. Remove from heat once Egg Tofu has "absorbed" the flavouring from Soup Stock
8. Ready to serve but mashed into smaller pieces for toddler's easy chewing

Pork - I only use Pork Fillet for Uniquetius. There's only 1 piece in each pig and comes in a strip, very red in color. In Hokkien they can it "Yo-Bak"

** I don't add any flavouring/ sauces to Uniquetius's food. You may wish to add a little soy sauce or dark soy sauce to taste but it is not recommended for children under 18 months old. The Soup Stock which I prepared beforehand is good and flavourful enough for his tiny taste buds.

A Touching Story

I will forever remember that fateful night, I was, as usual tuning in to the sports news. My wife, after her shower, came to me and said:”Why is there a mole growing on my leg?”

I am a man who has no medical knowledge, I have always thought that a woman likes to kick up a big fuss over such trivial issues and choose to ignore her….

Our marriage life is a cordial, peaceful one. Since the day I was promoted to a senior post in my company, she has been a full-time housewife. My work requires me to work over time every other day, to top that, I have to make business trips frequently, sometimes stretching as long as three weeks. While on such trips, others will be worrying about the old folks at home, who will take care of the children’s schoolwork and stuff like that. But for me, I can be rest assured that she will take care of my parents and she will be there taking care of the housework and children’s schoolwork.

In fact, the number of people who admired my plight equals the number of people who admired her. In the eyes of the others, she needs not slog from nine to five and putting up with unreasonable bosses. I have long bought a car and a three-room and two-living room house in the West. Although we do not know the meaning of romantic, our life had been a loving one.

My wife was formerly a pharmacist and therefore had some medical knowledge. She knew that any mole growth that was neither painful nor itchy like hers can mean something more then it meets the eye. She went to the doctor herself, and was diagnosed with skin cancer….. The diagnosis left us all in a state of shock.

In the following days, we went to all the big, reputable hospitals that we can find in Shanghai. But all the diagnosis were the same, in fact, one of the expert in the field even told us that the death rate for her condition is 90%, she is suffering from the most critical type of skin cancer… Before long, as predicted by the doctors, news moles began to grow on her legs, arms and back. And her body and vitality began to go downhill.

As far as I can remember, I was still prone to occasional fever, cold, flu and minor aches. But as for my wife, she had hardly fallen ill before. But now, a body that had hardly idled has capitulated to the hospital bed.

A home without her feels so empty; there is no life in the house. The toilet seat and the furniture are now covered with a layer of dust. A place that was once filled with warmth, a place that I once felt so comfortable after a hard day’s work now look like a foreign land. I felt like an alien in the house, I had a hard time trying to figure out how to use the microwave oven to defrost, the rice cooker to cook rice. As hard as I tried, the coffee or tea that I brewed, and even the bowl of instant noodle never tasted the same as those that she made. Things that she used to fetch for me without much fuss, I had trouble finding after ransacking the drawers…. Things that I had taken for granted….

Ever since she was hospitalized, I took leave from work to spend as much time I could with her. I have finally come to realize that without a home, without a loving wife at home, all the money, fame and status that a man can earn boils down to nothing. Just as her condition was turning for the worse, a friend told me that there is a hospital in Guangzhou that specializes in skin cancer. There was even a similar case that fully recovered after treatment there. However, the cost of treatment is extremely high; the course of treatment is three month long, costing more than 300 thousands and with a 30% chance of recovery. When I told my wife about the news, a body that had been tormented till out of sorts by the horrible illness told me clearly: “I want to live on….” On hearing that, I started to weep.

Frankly, I have never felt how loving we were in the past, but now, at that very moment, I felt that we were the most loving couple in the whole wide world, a pair that was made in heaven. How wonderful to be able to stay together, she wanted to live, and I wanted her…. We wanted to age together, to see our kid grow up, to see our son’s children call us Grandpa and Grandma. I made up my mind to go to Guangzhou with her.

When I was in office to apply for leave, I could hear one of my colleagues whispering to another: “If I were him, I will save the money. My GOD, it’s 300 over thousand. What if she doesn’t recover in the end? Wouldn’t that be a waste?” For those who said those words, they have never felt the grief and pain of someone dear withering, slipping slowly away from us. They will never understand the kind of hope that this possible lease of life can bring. I was thinking inside, even if it was 600 thousand, a million, or even if it means selling my car, my house and everything just to keep her alive, I will do it willingly.

Before the trip to Guangzhou, I went to the supermarket to do some shopping on the daily necessities. It was the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival; the supermarket was filled with a joyous crowd. I suddenly felt a wall between the crowd and myself. All the joy and laughter had no relation to me ever since the day of her diagnosis. I bought the items in the shopping list that was given to me by her.

When I checked out at the cashier, I felt the weight of all the groceries. For all these years, all these grocery shopping had been done by her, alone. I had no idea how much a kilogram of rice costs, the price of a bottle of cooking oil. I never knew that it was so tiring to carry all these items from the supermarket to our home. I had always thought that I was the pillar of the house, only when she suddenly fell ill did I know that she was the backbone of the house.

When in Guangzhou, we spent the closest moments together since our marriage. In the three months, we were always beside each other, we laughed together, cried together. I couldn’t remember when were the last time we had such heart-to-heart talk was, we felt so close.

In the first month of treatment, her condition seemed to improve. We could even take occasional walks in the garden, with me holding on to her arm. We were remising the day we first met at the entrance of the People’s Park, our first show at the Victory Theater was an Italian movie titled “The Last Emotion”. She even remembered that it starred Sophie Roland. She told me that when I dated her for the movie, she had, in fact, watched the movie with her classmate. But she couldn’t bring herself to reject my offer, and that is why she watched the movie a second time with me. The last time that we remise of this moment was during our honeymoon. Talking about it now, its really sad, after all these years of marriage, we have never talked so much.

In that 3 months, I saw her thin and pallid, slowly withering… the special treatment failed to take effect on her. The day came when she can’t even finish a bowl of porridge. In the end, she told me:”I want to go home”.

With that, we went back home, despaired. When home, her condition turns from bad to worse. Moreover, the symptom pains dreaded by all cancer patients crept in. She couldn’t sleep the whole night, turning and moaning in pain. Even morphine fails to ease the agony. How I wish that I could suffer the pain on her behalf. It’s just too much pain to be borne alone.

When she felt better, she would brief me of the household chores. Now did I realize the trivial details of household chores, the busy schedule she has all these while when she is at home. She even told me where to get my favorite rice hoof, which brand of undershirt I wear, and where to get them.

Three days before her demise, she even taught me how to operate the washing machine. We bought this washing machine together, but all these years, she has been the only one operating it. (The author can’t help but wept uncontrollably typing this).

Days before she left, she told me that she is glad that she married me and has never regretted doing so. The 3 months that we spent in Guangzhou was the happiest moments she had in her life. Those 3 months is also my most treasured moments in my life. Even though I had lost my chance of promotion because of these 3 months, but compared to the company that I shared with her, all these pales as worldly possessions. And luckily for the 3 months, else I would have lived in unrest conscience for the rest of my life. She died a peaceful death, on that day; I told my son that mummy had gone to another place to wait for us. In future, we will all meet again in that same place, and all will still be the same, she will still be his mummy, I will still be his daddy, and he will still be our beloved son.

Now, I dread to see a happy family in trio. Every time I pass by the People’s Park, the place where Victory Theater was originally, the supermarket that we had been together, I just couldn’t help but weep.

Whenever I use the washing machine, operate the microwave oven, changing the seasonal clothes for our son, coming home late from work, cooking instant noodles for myself, waking up in the middle of the night to find myself a lone on the big bed, I feel like crying.

When she was around, I had never felt specially blessed; she was just the woman I married, the mother of my child. But now that she is gone, the world seemed to crumple.

Before, when I watched shows about men who had lost their partners cried uncontrollably, I felt that it was to stir up feeling of the audience. But now, I cry with them.

That day, I saw a blood donation drive going on the road, it reminded me of her again. There was once a departmental blood donation drive that needed my blood. On hearing that, she told me seriously: “Can I take your place? I need not work anyways, so I can rest at home?” But I laughed her off saying: “You crazy? I would be a laughing stock if others found out!” After my donation, she even cooked for me pork liver spinach soup and red bean lotus porridge. And I remember her telling our son:”Papa works hard to make money for the family, so papa is the most important person.”

In fact, she is the most important person, without her, my son and I have lost the most important thing in the whole wide world-happiness. I bought a resting place for her in the hills. I was grief struck when I used the red paint to write “Beloved wife” on the tombstone.

I am not a man who is good in expressing my feelings. Throughout our courtship, I did not even say the word “LOVE” to her. I used to laugh at her for reading the Qiong Yao novels, or crying over those love scenes in the movies, but now, I could only transcript the word “LOVE” on her tombstone. My beloved wife, if she could relive again, I am willing to say “I love you” time and time again. These three words that all ladies in the world would love to hear repeatedly from their beloved man. Why? Why didn’t I say it enough to her when she needed me to say it? When she was healthy?

I just want to tell all the healthy and happy living husbands, love and treasure your wife, spent more time with her, do not be blind to all that your wife has done for you. A lot of times, we only know how to treasure things after losing them.

Your wife is the person who loves you most in your life, the one that understand you most, the woman who will give up everything for you. Most of all, no other man-woman relationship can be compared to husband-wife relationship.

Bottom line of the story is to always cherish and treasure your loved one where there are still around..... Don’t take them for granted......

I wish to log this down for Uniquetius.

I don't know what is in store for me after tomorrow.

We have plan for a Family Outing to East Coast Park for picnic and cycling this Saturday as it happened to be Darling’s off day.

Right before going for this Family Outing, I’ll be going for a check up and X-ray done.

I discovered a lump on my head last Sunday. It was a ten-cent bump which is quite tender to touch. Then this bump grew and now it’s fifty-cent size. It’s painful to lie on the left side of my head and I worried that the lump is cancerous.

Honestly, it’s not easy for me to write this down as I know I have some family members / relatives reading this site. I do not want them to call me and bombard me with their questions and worries.

I do not want my husband to call me and nagged at me saying that I’m thinking things too negatively.

But I’ve thought for days, cried for nights. Somehow or rather, I am expecting the worst. At least when the result comes out, I know how to react.

Initially I wanted to only go to the doctor on the 11th November when Uniquetius goes for his MMR jab but I’d decided to bring forward the appointment to face the music earlier.

Just in case, in case…. …. The result is something which is dreadful; I might be missing for a period of time. Meanwhile, I have already scheduled a few posts waiting to be published. Do continue to visit and help me to click on my Ad(s).

I wanted to write a letter or something to Uniquetius over here. But I got too emotional and tears started flowing. I think. I should leave this as it is.

Avocado Banana Milkshake Recipe

Sharing one of Uniquetius's favourite drink recipe -
Avocado Banana Milkshake

Ingredients:
- 1 Ripe Avocado (Very dark brown/purple colour)
- 1 Ripe Banana
- 1/2 cup Milk (I use Magnolia)
- 1-2 tablespoon Honey (Only for toddlers above 1 year old & Adults)

1. Slice the Avocado lengthwise.
2. Twist/Pull both sides of sliced Avocado apart.
3. Remove the pit from the Avocado.

4. Use a spoon to scoop out the Avocado flesh.
5. Peel skin of Banana.
6. Place both Avocado & Banana into blender/Juicer.

7. Add in Milk.
8. Start blending/ juicing till everything is pureed.
9. Add in desired amount of Honey* to taste.

Done!

- Can be served warm or cold.
Cold: Either add ice or place in fridge prior to drinking.
Warm: Stand cup in a bowl of hot/warm water for awhile to warm it up.
DO NOT place in microwave.

* Honey is only suitable for kids above 1 year of age.

p/s The consistency of the blended Avocado Banana should be creamy but slightly watery than ice cream or if you would like it to be more watery, add more Milk.

Third Weekend of October

Last Friday after work and dinner, Darling and I brought Uniquetius to the playground behind Kembangan MRT Station.

It was Uniquetius’s virgin trip and I brought his dinner along as he was not hungry yet. He had along of fun running around and climbing the stairs and sliding down on his own. It was at that point, I realized that he has grown. He’s no longer the helpless baby who needs Mummy to aid him in everything.

I am happy and proud of his progresses and development yet in the meantime I was also worried that my Uniquetius doesn’t need me by his side anymore. I am not really looking forward to the day Uniquetius attend his official first school surrounded with new friends and such. By then, I will not be his first priority anymore :’(

Okay back to topic.

After Uniquetius had his fun running around and chasing people’s dog’s toys, I sat him down at the bench and fed him his dinner and apple and ice cold water.

Amazingly, he finished the entire portion of steamed salmon with cheese and steamed egg. Wonderful! Finishing his food always makes me happy as I put in effort to cook his dinner every single day.

We cab home from Kembangan at about 10pm.

Last Saturday as usual, woke up in the morning to prepare Uniquetius’s lunch and I made Konnyaku Jellies. I even prepared lunch for Darling & myself.

Our lunch – Steamed Egg, Ginseng Chicken Soup and Roasted Pork & BBQ Pork

Darling managed to make Uniquetius nap before we had our lunch which was a good thing as we did have a peaceful lunch.

Shortly after our lunch, Uniquetius woke up and I fed him his lunch. While I went to wash the dishes, Darling helped to shower Uniquetius and I packed his stuffs and off we go to Marine Parade Library.

I wanted to leave home with Uniquetius because Darling was on night duty. If Uniquetius were to be at home, Darling won’t get any quality sleep.

I cab to Marine Parade Library from home to return and also to borrow some books. Aftermath, I walked from the library to Parkway Parade under the scorching sun. I was so afraid that Uniquetius might faint due to the heat as I was slinging him so I kept giving him his water to drink. I went to Giant to meet one mummy whom I know from forum to get the customized Pacifier Pouch from her. I also collected on Pearl and Jann’s behalf as well.

Proceed to both Isetan & Kiddy Palace afterwards to look for a good pair of sandals for Uniquetius for the upcoming Farmart trip. Got a pair of Combi sandals from Kiddy Palace and went to Isetan nursing room to nurse Uniquetius. He fell asleep and I sat there like a goondu till he was awake from the nap.

Went McDonalds for a Happy Meal snack and balloon. Then my iPhone died on me. It just shuts down on its own and refused to be switch on again.

Went to Hello Shop and seek for help but the staff told me to go down to ComCentre to get it repaired or exchanged for a new one. But I was rushing for time as it was already 6.30pm while ComCentre operates till 8pm only.

I decided to go home to try my luck by installing iTunes and do the restoration on my own. And I only succeeded doing so at about 10pm. The only disappointment was that I lost around 2000 photos and videos and some new contacts.

I swore to Darling that I will backup my iPhone once every week after this incident. I never want to feel the heartache again.

Kelvin & Jasmine picked Uniquetius & I up at Bugis Junction and off we went to Mind Cafe at Prinsep Street. We had tons of laughter and fun and left the place at around 2am.

No photos though. Was busy enough looking after a toddler whom wasn't well behaved and actually vomited on Leng when she brought him out for supper at the Mr Bean's Restaurant next door.

Darling told me on Thursday that we're heading to somewhere fun for Uniquetius yet he refused to reveal where we'll be going until I kept bugging him for hints and clues as I need to know what I should wear. Then he said we'll be going to Farmart.

He came back from duty on Sunday morning at 7.30am and had breakfast with me before falling asleep at 10am. He woke me up and asked me to get prepared as he has a surprise for me.

I asked him to sleep in a little more as he had less than 3 hours of sleep but he insisted on starting the day early. Hence we got prepared and left home to Choa Chu Kang.

Then I started tweeting that I was enjoying my head massage when Leng & Alson appeared in front of me. Earlier in the day, Leng whatsapp me and asked me some personal stuffs and also said that she's working. So I was astonished to see her at Lot 1.

Darling was laughing away asking if I am surprised or not. Lol. And so this is the surprise he had been planning all along :D

After my hair cut, we proceed to have lunch as Uniquetius was whining away.

Anyway, this mini animal farm is really mini de lor. There's like 1 big goat, 2 small goats, a few frogs, some tortoises, some rabbits and people selling vegetables for visitors to feed the animals. So you know what to expect when you reach there uh?

Walked back to the food centre and sat down to rest as weather was too humid and hot. Was contemplating on heading to QianHu or Turf City Fidgets.

QianHu has nothing but fishes. Fidgets closes at 6pm whereas it was already 4pm. Then Darling mentioned that there's a SOL Playground Cafe at Turf City as well.

So we decided to have some snacks before re-routing to Turf City.

The "hum" were very bloody.
Only people like Leng & Darling loves raw and bloody stuffs.
Alson & I are the more humane people. We are herbivorians. LOL

Uniquetius pooped in the cab and we were searching for a nursing room to change his diaper but entire Turf City macam no changing room for babies plus it's very run down and ulu!

Then decides to just go into SOL Playground Cafe and use their nursing room and eat at the same time.

To our disappointment, SOL Playground isn't what we had imagine or pictured it to be from the way we read their site.

Their menu are more higher-end people inclined I supposed.

Their prices are extrovegent. One normal standard bowl of mushroom soup costs $8.90 (before taxes).
The playground outside are more suitable for toddlers above 4 as their slides are too high for 1-3 years old and rusty and dirty in my opinion.

Some parts of the playground has obvious wear and tear which is deem dangerous for toddlers and the place has mozzies. I got bitten twice while Uniquetius was at the playground for a mere 5 minutes.

The baby/toddler indoor area with TV are lined with ABC foam mats but as parents you will wonder if they do sanitise the place everyday. As I let Uniquetius in onto the foam mat with his shoes and nobody stopped us. There's no sign of "Np Footwear Allowed" too!

There was about 5-6 servers and basically no customer at 6.45pm in the restaurant.

So it was that bad. We had a round of pizza, a scoop of ice cream and a slice of Oreo cheese cake and off we ran away.

We couldn't decide on a place for dinner thus we settled at Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant and chose our seafood from Unique Seafood Market.

Our dslr battery died when we arrive at SOL and so some photos are taken using phone's camera.

Uniquetius may be too young to understand and appreciate at this moment. But I'm sure when he is old enough to read my blog, he will loves his daddy more than he does now for the efforts Daddy puts in giving him a memorable childhood.

Papa's 52nd & Mama's 49th Birthday

On the 5th October 2010, my dad turned 52 and we celebrated his birthday at Boat Quay area.

Since my mum's birthday on the 25th Ocotber 2010, we'd decided to combined both their birthday celebration together.

Darling and I left home at about 3pm and went over to Dr Heng's clinic to have second opinion given in regards to Uniquetius's skin erosion on the lips before proceeding to Bugis Junction Swensens to collect the ice cream cake which I had ordered.

From Bugis, we cab to South Bridge Road to keep the cake with the food stall before bringing Uniquetius to the Boat Quay bridge for some photo taking.

Papa, Mama, Leng and Alson arrived at close to 8pm before we could start our dinner.

Uniquetius's Skin Erosion

I noticed white patches of skin appearing on Uniquetius's lips and tip of tongue since Saturday (02/10/10) evening. I thought they were dead skin which I kept trying to clean it off using his hanky and thought that it will ultimately came off on it's own.

Monday, I sent Uniquetius to the infant care as usual. I forgot to mention to the teachers about his lips. After work when I went to pick Uniquetius up, Teacher Joan told me about Uniquetius's lips and even showed me the underneath of the upper lips. I was shocked to see the entire under side of the upper lips were "corroded" with the white patches.

Decided to seek medical help. But question is where? I have two choices.

One: EC Family Clinic at Eunos MRT (My family doctor, Dr Heng's Clinic; but he is off duty)
Two: Kidslink Children's Clinic at Bedok North Ave 3 (A distance away, need to cab and difficult to find a cab during peak hours.

Called Darling (He's on night shift) to ask for advice and decided on going to EC Family Clinic first and if it's anything serious then we will detour to A&E.

From the infant care, I slinged Uniquetius in the baby carrier, carried his bag, my bag & the cooler bag for his expressed breast milk and walked to Eunos MRT and saw that there was a crowd at the clinic. Went in to register and was told that waiting time was about 1 hour or so.

I went to the nearest coffee shop to have my dinner while slinging Uniquetius. After dinner, I bought BeeHoon soup (requested for no seasoning added) from the FishBall noodles store for Uniquetius's dinner.

Went back to the clinic and check if it's our turn yet. told by nurse assistant that there's 7 more patients in front of us and so I sat outside the clinic and fed Uniquetius his BeeHoon and fishballs.

If anyone were to see me there and then, would have reckoned me to be very pathetic, looking like a mess and forlorn as if I'd been dumped or something.

Then it was finally our turn to see the doctor. It was Dr Choo on duty. The doctor I hated since my pregnancy days. He's extremely impolite and unprofessional.

The minute I entered the room, I had to place my bags on the examination bed before I could sit down to tell him what's wrong. But his tone of voice while I was placing my bags sounds kind of urging me to be quick and ask me what's wrong. I told and showed him Uniquetius's lips. He proceeded to pry open Uniquetius's mouth with a wooden slab of stick.

Just when he was about to take Uniquetius's temperature, I asked if he had changed the cover on the ear thermometer. He inserted the thermometer into his ear anyway and informed me in a very loud and irritated tone "Your child is having fever and sore throat, you understand?”

I was astonished at Uniquetius having fever as I am quite sure that he is not having fever. Dr Choo took his temperature for the second time and I inquired about the reading which he purposely placed the thermometer screen away from me. Then he repeated loudly once more "Your child having fever".

And proceed to say "Do you need any antibiotics for him?” At this moment, I seriously thought that I had heard him wrongly thus I mumbled a "huh?!" To which he replied loudly again "do you need any antibiotics?"

This time, I raised my voice at him and said "How am I supposed to know? You’re the doctor not me!" To which he said "I know. I am just letting you know."
He proceeds to walk to the door and opened the door while waiting for me to make an exit from the consultation room. Ridiculous!

I have not asked what causes the white patches of skin and what's wrong with his throat and such and yet this old man is trying to shoo me out of his room.
I asked loudly "What causes this then?" He said "its skin erosion. No medicine can cure. It's untreatable." My blood was already boiling and asked once more "But what causes it?" He replied "Well. Maybe sucking?!"

To which, I left the consultation room. I was telling the clinic assistant that Dr Choo is one of the rudest and unsympathetic doctor I'd ever seen in my entire life.
I requested her to get Dr Heng to ring me up before I decide to take further action. I left the clinic with antibiotics on hand. But I did not give Uniquetius the prescribed medication.

I decided to seek for second opinion the next day with Dr Heng in the afternoon before I would feed Uniquetius any medication orally.
I applied leave and stayed home to monitor Uniquetius's condition. The inner part of the lips actually got worse.

Head to see Dr Heng in the afternoon and told him about the incident last evening with Dr Choo. I told him I was very disappointed with the service attitude I received and the fact that I had continue to patronize him and also not taking other action by writing in to the press or whatsoever is because I like him, Dr Heng. He is a very humble and sensible doctor with lots of knowledge.

Dr Heng confirmed that Uniquetius was not running any fever but his throat is slightly red and swollen and the white patches on lips are due to skin erosion. It may occur when there are bacteria in the mouth or on the surrounding and is not contagious.

I felt at ease after hearing Dr Heng's diagnosis and started Uniquetius on his medication as per prescription.

Mummies, do not give your child medication when you felt unconfident of that doctor's diagnosis.

Seek for second opinion; trust your maternal instincts :)

Uniquetius's 10th tooth

And so, as expected, Uniquetius's lower left First Molar sprouted yesterday, 4 days after the right side.

Now, let us all wait for the upper left and right First Molar :D

Uniquetius's 9th tooth

FINALLY, Uniquetius's lower right first molar decides to sprout yesterday. I had been rubbing his gums daily to check for new tooth because his gums had been swollen for a month or so.

Poor boy!

I hope his left molar sprout soon too as it has been swollen for a month too.

Cheese Sauce Recipe

Homemade Cheese Sauce

The below recipe is adapted and modified from Annabel Karmel's Cook Book

Ingredients:

- 3 tablespoon Plain Flour (May use Wholemeal or All-purpose Flour)
- 500ml Full Cream Milk
- 2.5 - 3 tablespoon Margarine (May use unsalted Butter)
- 100g Parmesan Cheese (May use Cheddar Cheese)

----------------------------------------------------------

Preparation:

1. Melt the butter using low heat.

2. Add in the flour and stir the flour into the butter.

3. Add the milk slowly, stir the milk and try to break the lumps until
all the milk has been added.

4. Remove from heat once the sauce has slightly thickened and
stir in the Parmesan cheese gently.

5. Leave the sauce to cool after all lumps has been 'broken'

6. Freeze them in cubes

This sauce can be kept for 2-3 weeks in deep freezer. It's a great base for pasta and also a healthy snacks (bread & biscuits) or vegetable (carrot, celery sticks) dipper.

Plus it's so convenient. To warm the cubes, either put it over low fire in saucepan or pop it into the microwave on defrost mode. The sauce don't have to be served piping hot. Just lukewarm will do.

Uniquetius enjoyed dipping his bread into this sauce for his breakfast :)

- Homed to nurse Uniquetius after Daddy, Mummy & PeiZhen left
- Brought Uniquetius down to buy groceries after he woke up from nap
- Cooked dinner at 6.30pm

I realised after having Uniquetius, all my seasonings for adult food has been kept to minimum. I'm quite sensitive to too salty or too sweet stuffs now. Else my tongue will turn numb after a few mouthful. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing though.

Sunday 03/10/10

- Brought him down for an hour swim with snacks at the pool

Children's Day 2010

I was on leave as the Infant Care does not operate on Children's Day. Darling took last minute leave as well to accompany us.

I am appreciative of his intention to spend more time with us. Woke up very early in the morning to entertain the rascal and also had our breakfast before we return to sleep. Woke up close to noon to prepare Uniquetius's lunch. Fed him his lunch before giving him his bath. After preparation, we left home to East Shore Hospital to look for Dr. Roland Chieng. The gynae whom delivered Uniquetius. Took pictures and got him to sign on Uniquetius's Guest Book. Had lunch there before cabbing to Marine Parade Community Library.

Uniquetius got his library membership done and spent some time flipping the books before going for my foot reflexology and Darling's shoulder & back massage. Darling got me my Koi Ice Cream Milk Tea too. We went to Parkway Parade after our massage for grocery shopping at Giant. Bought truckload of stuffs for Uniquetius and ourselves.

Settled for dinner at ChaoZhou Inn. Overall, I love this year's Children's Day spent with Dearest & Uniquetius! :)

It's our 4th year anniversary together.

We've been through so many highs and lows throughout these 4 years. The many lows were so close to "walk-out-of-the-door-and-never-to-return-again" episode all because of our fiery temper.

But still, we overcome it. I know it may not be smooth-sailing for the next 40 years or so. But I have long accepted you for who you are, love you, for who you are.

Thank you for being with me and supporting my every major and minor decision in life.
Thank you for the adorable son we have together.
Thank you for the flat that we bought together.

You made my life worthwhile. You made me feel secure and loved.
Please smoke and drink lesser to live longer with me and continue our dream to travel round the world for the next 40 years or so.

Play Dough Recipe

Which kids don't love play dough?

I loved play dough during my younger days. But I don't know why my parents didn't get it for it. It may be either too expensive or too messy to be played with.

I remembered enjoyed playing with plasticine back in primary school as it was the only opportunity that I was allowed to touch it.

I could build my imaginary world of animals/dolls/pets/food with the dough in hand. I will not forget the joy of playing with play dough/plasticine.

I have a pot of play dough at home from "Play-Doh" which I had delayed introducing to Uniquetius as I was afraid that he might swallow the dough accidentally.

Yet, I have good mind to start buying pots and pots of VARIOUS colours of dough for Uniquetius when he hit the 'right' age to play with dough.

Then I came across Mummy Yvonne's blog and saw the recipe. Seek permission and lifted the recipe from her.

Ingredients

- 250ml Water (1 standard cup)

- 1 tablespoon Vegetable Oil (I used Olive oil)

- 125ml Salt (1/2 standard cup)

- 1 tablespoon Cream of tartar (optional)

- Food coloring (Any Colour of your choice)

- 1 standard cup Plain Flour

Procedure

1. Add Water, Vegetable Oil, Salt, Cream of tartar and Food Colouring in a saucepan/pot and heat until warm. (Need not be boiling hot!)

2. Remove from heat and add Flour

3. Stir the solution and flour, then knead the mixture until smooth

* Cream of tartar is to prolong the lifespan of the dough - up to six months or longer *

** Dough should be stored in an airtight container or Ziploc bag **

*** Do not refrigerate ***

**** Color of the dough will be lighter as compare to the solution. For darker dough, add more coloring ****

I love their new range of pasta and it's affordable too. But it's a tad too salty for the Char-Grilled Pasta. I'll still return to have their pasta anytime again as it's nice plus their service standard had improved since the last time I visited Tampines branch with Jann.

Zoey & I seat and chatted very long in the restaurant while Uniquetius took his nap. We settled the bill and left while Uniquetius woke up from his nap.

Walked around Tampines Mall and went inside Toys'R'us to let Uniquetius roamed about playing with those 'free' toys.

After which went to Fairprice to grab some stuffs for my dough-making (more about that later) and also Uniquetius's yogurt & yakult drinks.

After grocery shopping, we went to have our tea break at Mos Burger. I couldn't resist my temptation to grab their fish burger. Their burger are major yums seriously.

Chatted for quite long and then proceeded to Iseten to get men handkerchief for Jim whose birthday is today. Darling gonna attend his 'party' at a pub later on.

Went to get some bread for my breakfast on Sunday morning before parting ways with Zoey. Nice meet up. Uniquetius loves Zoey. Cuz twice when he woke up from his nap, he smiled at Zoey immediately. Haha.

Sunday:

It's Art & Craft day. Been planning for this day since last week.

This year's Mid Autumn Festival, my family is not 团结 so cannot sit down eat moon cake, appreciate the round moon, carry lantern and play candles.

Darling was on night shift and Uniquetius was too young to play with those beautiful traditional paper lantern with candles. Plus, I'm staying in an estate where no kids will come out to play with candles by the roadside with other neighbours' kids. Unlike staying in a HDB where all children young or old will crowd at the playground and play with candles, lanterns or fire. Very sad.

Hope next year, Darling, Uniquetius and I will be able to sit down at our block there and 赏月，吃月饼. Anyway, I decided to make Uniquetius a lantern with recycled items.

Uniquetius enjoyed playing with the lantern! :)

It's quite easy to make plus it's safe without any candles needed thus no fire. But sad to say, Uniquetius left it lying in the kitchen right behind my feet while I was cooking and without knowing, I stepped onto the lantern crashing the Octopus completely. Hence no clear view of the Octopus lantern which I'd made for Uniquetius :'(

After making the lantern, I let Uniquetius hanged around the living hall playing with it while I go prepare his play dough ingredients to make.

I did 3 rounds of dough in total. The first round, I did 3 colours. Then I got very excited on the outcome of the dough and decided to go for 2nd round. But to my dismay, there's not enough salt which I decided to compromise on the salt.

But the result turn out horrifying. The dough was to sticky and simply cannot be used despite many attempt to adjust the stickiness with extra flour, oil and such. So I threw away the whole lump of dough.

Then i prepared Uniquetius's lunch and fed him. After lunch, brough him down for a dip in the pool and also played with his new water gun.

Yes. I wore my nursing bra down to the pool.
Shut up and don't laugh!

He sucked his pacifier, lied there and simply soaked in the sun.
He knows how to enjoy life man!

After the swim and taking a nap, off we went to the convenience store downstairs to get my salt. I need to complete his play dough set else I will feel myself as a failure.

While on the way home, he stopped by the field of Telok Kurau Secondary School and stood there for very long just to watch the football players playing soccer. When I asked him to budge, he kept muttering "Bo-bo, bo-bo". Lol.

I did not waste my Sunday at home at all. I did 2 rounds of laundry and also did agar-agar (Seaweed Jelly). But my version is "non-sweet" type. Haha. Because I intended to make the jellies for the babies in the Infant Care on Monday.

No special occasion. Just felt so loved by this old man of mine.

He is the only one who can say "You're Beautiful" even when I'm dressed in the simplest of the simplest with naked face, no cream, no powder, no colours.

He is the only one who can sacrifice his sleep (he works 12 hour day/night shifts) just to do the house chores for me so that I will have more time with Uniquetius.

He is the only one who can willingly go buy my tampons.

He is the only one who does so many things so many things for this family, for me.

Especially the daily massages he gave be it in the day or night. The breakfast/ dinner he buy back for me. The occasional spa/manicure/pedicure treats from him.

I'm thankful.

If only... ... ... his smelly temper can be less smellier. Maybe I will be willingly to bury myself alive with him if he passes on before me. Lol~

I'm so emotional.

Do you know, breast milk is not only good food for the baby, it also have a lot of other use! I have asked around and breastfeeding moms had confirm that most of the following uses of breast milk is true~

Eye infections: Squirt in an open or closed eye. If the eye is closed have the person lie back, squirt it, then open his or her eye. Do this four or more times per day.

Plugged eye ducts: Squirt into the eye crease at the nose. Do this four times one day and two times the next.

Conjunctivitis ("Pink Eye"): Same as Plugged eye ducts, but continue with four times daily until the crust is gone.

Sties: Same as Conjunctivitis.

Sore/cracked nipples: Rub into nipples and air dry.

Scratches/ Scrapes/ Burns/ Gouges: Squirt and air dry, bandage, etc. as normal.

Acne/ Eczema/ Diaper rash: Breast milk can help to clear up these nasty skin disorders. All you need to do is to wash the infected area of the skin with clean water, and then you can apply the breast milk all over the infected area. You should then let the milk air-dry.

Facial Cleanser: Breast milk holds the ability to clean the skin very well. You should apply the breast milk on the face and wipe it clean. Believe it or not, breast milk can remove eye makeup.

Mosquito/ Ant bites: Squirt on bite and rub in. Stops the itching.

Ear infections: Squirt or pour into sore ear.

Sore Throat and Mouth Sores: Breast feed your baby if their throat becomes sore. If you get a canker sore you can swish a little breast milk around in your mouth for several seconds. This will help to heal the infection.

Stuffy noses: Squirt into nose and suction or squeeze out as you would with saline.

Contact lenses: If you have an irritant under your lens and forgot your eye drops, take it out, hand express to get a nice little stream going to rinse contact off.

Eye puffiness and redness: You can squirt breast milk into the eye to cure puffiness and redness.

Cold sores/Fever blisters: Express a small amount of breast milk onto clean finger and apply immediately to cold sore. Ends pain and helps speed the healing process.

Chicken Pox: You can use breast milk to help ease the pain of itching by using the same as you would Calamine Lotion or any other ointment.

Chapped lips/skin: Express a small amount onto fingers and wipe over lips or skin. Do not rub it in...leave a little wet. (This feels great on chapped lips and it normally only takes a day or two to clear!)

*If you have an older child/spouse who is ill, give them some breast milk. It's a great immunity boost!

Well well.. What should we call breast milk? Miracle liquid!! LOL..

Anyway, I was agonised over a stupid huge zit on my chin last Wednesday. After reading this entry, I went home and religiously applied breast milk on my zit. I hand squeezed a drop onto my finger and dab on that zit. Dry, apply, dry, apply. On Thursday, it did shrank and dried up. I don't know if it's the power of the liquid gold or not lar.

But in my twitter I did say that if it did heal, I sumpah to wash my face with breast milk. So I am gonna pump my breast milk out to wash my face soon lar.

I will share the experience of washing my face with something which I don't even dare to taste.

Saturday:

Woke up and cooked lunch for Uniquetius before leaving home to meet Serene & Sophia at Changing Appetite; Marina Square.

Prepared and done with everything at 11.45pm and intended to let Uniquetius nap awhile but he was throwing tantrum due to I-don't-know what reasons. Poo-ed and wanted to change his diaper, he refused and screamed and cried. After removing diaper, he refused to let me clean his butt and again screamed and cried. After wiping his butt, refused to allow me to put on clean diaper and AGAIN screamed and cried. I took about 15 minutes to change 1 diaper.

Didn't behave himself either at Changing Appetite :( Whined non-stop. At night at home also whined. Mega sighs.

Anyway, chatted and laughed over many issues over a longgg lunch. Finally we footed the bill and went off for window shopping.

Serene needed to leave early and so Sophia continued walking with me for a while before she left too. I bought a hugeass bolster & pillow for Uniquetius to replace his old ones.

Went McDonalds for a drink and snacks for Uniquetius as he didn't had much for lunch. I realised that he is losing appetite recently. I suspect it's due to teething of his first molar :(

While walking towards City Hall Train Station, passed by Pedro at Citylink Mall and decided to get a pair of shoes for Darling as our 4th anniversary gift (I did request for a dollar in return just in case he ran away from me with that pair of shoes. But he gave me 2 bucks instead)

Sunday:

Slept in till late as I don't have any chores to do except for a round of laundry :D

Darling had do me a kind favor by clearing all the house chores bit by bit during the weekdays.

After taking quite some time for lunch as he was busy listening to his favourite nursery rhymes, I decided to bring him down for a swim as the weather is cooling and sunny.

Changed myself & Uniquetius and off we went downstairs with his float, rubber duck & bubble machine gun in tow.

Must check if everything in order

I was surprised that he's rather well behaved and did not resisted when I placed him in the float. Maybe I asked him permission before I placed him inside in which he felt respected lar. Haha.

After swim, brought him home to bath and made him nap. I went to have my bath during his nap and also had cup noodles for lunch.

Then Daddy, Mummy, WeiJie & PeiZhen came over to visit and also brought over the 10 tins of Gain IQ which I got Mummy to collect on my behalf from an online mummy.

They came over like macam party. Bought roasted duck, kuehs, bottle of green tea and chrysenthemum tea to eat. And also played with Uniquetius. With them around, I quickyl went to cook Uniquetius dinner as Uniquetius was being entertained.

They left at 6pm and Uniquetius had another round of nap while I keep the clean laundry.

Darling return from work and bathed before going downstairs for dinner prepared by PohYong & family.

Home made pork & beef patty burgers with vegs & hashbrowns

Uncle Jim got Uniqueitus this new toy

Gave Uniquetius his night shower at about 9+pm and dressed him in his new pjamas bought by me!

He's sucha big boy now, don't you think so?
